But it’s not just about the game—it’s about belonging. At Valkyries, we support one another beyond the try line, fostering friendships that last a lifetime. Our team spirit thrives on encouragement, laughter, and the belief that together we are stronger.

The Valkyries history

The story of Valkyries Women’s Rugby Club Linz has undoubtedly always been about resilience, passion and community.

Starting years with Rugby Club Linz

Our journey began in 2012 as part of Rugby Club Linz. A small yet determined group of women came together to bring their love for rugby to life. From the very beginning we faced the challenges of (re-)building a team from scratch. While there has been a successful RC Linz Women’s team before (between 2006-2009) and despite the much appreciated support received from players and coaches it has been a rocky start — struggling with the inevitable growing pains of a new squad.

Playing associations

Despite the hurdles our spirit never wavered. Each season, we fought hard  to carve out a space for women’s rugby in our community. Therefore we entered different playing associations, each of which has taught us valuable rugby knowledge.

Early on we teamed up with Academic Rugby Club Leoben (2013-2016).
In 2017, while experiencing a peak in player numbers, there were aspirations to field our own independent team. Unfortunately we faced decimation in numbers soon after.
Therefore we looked into austrians southernmost region and began a partnership with Rugby Club Anexia Tigers. Together we not only navigated through a challenging Covid era but also reached our highest results so far (2nd in the Austrian Women’s 7s Rugby Championship 2019).
Since 2024 we play in a mixed team with the Vienna Celtic Rugby Football Club and Rugby Club Krems

Formation of Valkyries Women’s Rugby Club Linz

We celebrated our victories, learned from our losses and supported one another through it all.

Thanks to the inspiration from Rugby Upper Austria President Martin Kühr, in 2022 we took a bold step towards. We cemented our future by forming the Valkyries Women’s Rugby Club as a “Zweigverein” under Rugby Club Linz. This decision was not just about structure; it was about creating opportunities. By establishing our own identity while staying connected to our roots, we unlocked new possibilities for growth and player development.

Nevertheless we remain strongly connected with Rugby Club Linz. Once per week we hold combined training sessions. Also we support each other on and off the field however possible, be it by cheering each other on or assisting during events. You can pay them a visit either on their social media channels or on their website

Current team

Today, we are stronger than ever. Our team is a dynamic mix of veterans and newcomers, united by a shared love for the game and a vision for the future. We embrace our history and learn from our struggles. Together we build on them to create a club where everyone feels they belong.

The Valkyries are more than just a team. We are a testament to perseverance, unity and the power of reinvention.

Join us and be part of our story.
